Calculation of the spray booth

A drawing of a spray chamber is one of the main stages in the powder coating design on the site. It is impossible to spray the powder efficiently and evenly without it. Therefore, it is an obligat element of the powder coating line. Thanks to it, fresh air always enters the painting area. And all the powder that has not settled returns to work. It ensures the uniformity of the paint layer and saves lots of money.

As we already wrote the purpose of the spraying chamber is to collect the unsettled powder and to provide comfortable working conditions for the painter. But it also prevents paint particles from spreading through the coating area.

The spraying chambers have a fan that prevents powder flying out of the painted zone. Contaminated air and paint particles that have not settled on the product are collected in the collector device. Filters and cyclones separate the powder from the air in there. The paint is sieved and sent back to the gun hopper. And the air undergoes additional filtration for excluding the  smallest particles. After that, cleaned ones go to the paint spraying zone.

The spray chamber usually has openings for loading / unloading parts. For box models, this is the same hole. And tunnel ones have  two different openings located on opposite sides of the device. They also have a working opening for a painter or automatic spray installation.

Designing a spray chamber the scheme must take into account the housing, manifold, fan, barrier filter, external voltage source, cartridge filter, sieve, spray and feeder. In order for the device to work correctly it is necessary to select each component properly. Paying particular attention to the speed and power of its work. Therefore, it is better to entrust the matter to the professionals. Moreover, most companies do not sell ready-made devices but create individual designs based on the production specifics.

How to calculate the spraying chamber design and  installation

The air flow must circulate in the chamber with proper speed for the powder remains in the painting chamber and not blow off from the painted product. As a rule, in small chambers this indicator is equal to 0.4 m/s, and in large ones – 0.8 m/s. In order to calculate the amount of sucked air per hour, you need to multiply this speed by the area of ​​openings and by 3600. This is all about the air and the fan in the chamber.

The pendants where painted products are hung must be at least 0.6 m. If they are shorter, then the powder will settle more on them but not on the painted surface.

The distance between the painted product and the walls of the spraying chamber should be about 20 cm.

The lighting in the spray chamber also plays an important role. Especially in devices designed for manual painting. It is better to have the bulbs on the top and sides of the camera. Because when paint is sprayed and a cloud of powder forms, the painter has bad visual contact to the item. It is worth buying a camera with good, powerful lamps right away, otherwise you will have to install additional lamps outside, later.

Hand spray units must have a platform. It can be mobile or stationary. Its solidity and convenience are important. Remember that it must be grounded like all other equipment.
