Equipment for painting car wheels

Manufacturers use powder paint to paint cars. Its advantage lies in the fact that it lays down in a thin layer, looks incredible, lasts for a long time, is resistant to damage and protects the metal from corrosion. Our vehicles need special protection. It would seem that where a super-strong material is used – metal – there should be no problems. However, unfortunately, this is not the case. Metal products tend to oxidize, as a result of which the corrosion process starts. Corrosion is a physicochemical process that is caused when a metal comes into contact with water and oxygen. This is an integral part of any metal product, except for those with stainless properties. But they are not as reliable either, since metal stainless alloys are much softer in their strength and cannot be used for the production of automobiles. So you have to give preference to some properties over others. But it doesn’t matter, because it is enough to create a protective layer that will not allow moisture to come into contact with the metal surface, which means that you can forget about rusting forever.

Why do machines need special protection, and which parts?

In general, cars are covered with powder paint, since the consequences of a winter with excess moisture and tons of salt on the roads without proper protection will be irreparable. We are all accustomed to the fact that in the car you can hide from the rain and wind. But few people know that such atmospheric factors could distort and, slowly but surely, ruin your car. Fortunately, there is a powder paint that contains harmful factors.

Protective discs on car wheels suffer the most in this situation, since they most often come into contact with moisture, every time you need to ride in a puddle. Hence, it is important during production that these parts are completely covered without gaps or defects. Only in this case, rust will not get to the material and will not corrode it over time.

For perfect high-quality painting, all application rules and conditions must be observed. The paint shop must be equipped with a number of devices, which may vary depending on the product to be painted. Therefore, today we will pay attention to what equipment is used to paint car rims.

So, as with any powder paint line, the following stages of paint creation should be established:

  • cleaning stage;
  • paint spraying stage;
  • polymerization stage;

And each of them needs its own equipment.

Car rims do not take up too much space, so they do not require bulky spray chambers or curing. But at the same time, you can save energy consumption by painting several elements at the same time. Therefore, there are accepted standards for a spray booth where identical car rims are painted. It is usually a dead-end, which means that the product is loaded from the same side from which it is unloaded. The already suspended cleaned elements are loaded into it and the powder is applied.

Spraying is usually done by a foreman to check that the paint penetrates into all corners of the product. For this, an electrostatic spray gun is used. Often this gun has a blow-off property, that is, self-cleaning of paint residues, which allows you to quickly change color if necessary.

In production, an L-shaped scheme for creating a powder coating is installed, in which the spraying chamber is located not far from the polymerization chamber, but at a sufficient distance so as not to damage each other. At the same time, they are connected by a corner conveyor, which must quickly receive a set of only painted discs and place them in the polymerization chamber.

Conventional curing chambers can hold up to 12 discs. They are attached to the suspension at a distance of 10 cm from each other, so as not to suddenly damage the coating. The most commonly used curing chamber with bottom loading with the following dimensions: 2000x1600x1800 mm. This is more than enough to paint and deliver 12 car wheels of the same color and texture to a client in 15 minutes.

In addition to the main equipment, you also need to purchase a trolley to which the products are attached and which will move them along the conveyor, the conveyor rails themselves and a person who will carefully control the dyeing process, instrument settings and production quality. It is thanks to such a difficult task and special equipment that the wheels of our cars are protected by disks, they will not rust only after driving in the rain or seeing the first snow.
