Varieties of powder paint textures and features of their application

Attention to detail in the modern world sometimes costs more than investing significant sums in the purchase of expensive materials. Whereas only a few hundred years ago there was a fashion for the most expensive wood or the use of stone in the interior, today innovations allow us to experiment with different colors and textures to achieve the desired effect. For a long time, thanks to powder coating, you can paint any thing in any color. And what about the ability to coat the metal in such a way that it resembles marble or wood or sand. It would seem an impossible task for a technology in which the coating is applied with a powder and fixed by the method of polymerization, that is, by melting polymer particles. For polymer powder coating, creating special textures is not a problem at all.

Uniform smooth finish

The classic option for powder-polymer painting is a smooth finish. It is created through a thin layer and can turn boring items into a bright cherry on the cake in your interior. This paint can create three coatings:

  • glossy;
  • semi-matte;
  • matte.

They work well on common flat surfaces and can also be used alone or combined. After all, not only the spectrum of colors, but also the use of all the features of the paint will help to make the product more interesting.

However, it is not worth dwelling on this, because the possibilities are unlimited. There are many textures that can be created using powder painting.

Shagreen

For this type of textured coating, the surface has a peculiar wavy shape, somewhat reminiscent of an orange peel. First of all, it attracts with its unusual appearance. However, many forget that it is also a great way to hide certain surface imperfections. In such a paint, there are certain particles that, during polymerization, are deformed and acquire different sizes, thereby creating a bulky coating. In addition, shagreen can be created in accordance with the types of smooth finishes: both glossy and matte.

Antik

Lovers of antique metal trinkets, grandma’s brooches and a sideboard with flowers and gilding will probably love the antique texture paint. It is also created due to the curvature of the coating, however, unlike shagreen, it has an unusual sheen, reminiscent of aged bronze or copper. This is due to the fact that the deeper areas acquire a darker shade than the convex ones, which also have the ability to shine nobly under the influence of light.

Moire

This texture is not inferior to others either in beauty or in practicality. Its surface resembles sandpaper or sand, but it is very pleasant to the touch. Thanks to the effect of fine grain, it is also easy to hide imperfections, especially the surface is scratch-resistant, it is difficult to scratch fine sand particles, isn’t it? You can choose any color or gloss level.

Crocodile

Remember the fashion for crocodile leather shoes. And what if you paint a door or a wardrobe like that. You can always surprise with such texture, experiment a little with flowers – and now it is a unique and inimitable element of decor. Moreover, this texture has an increased resistance to UV rays. Thus, uniqueness, style and practicality are provided.

Metallic

Metallic coating will never lose its relevance, especially when it comes to metal products. Creates the effect of precious metals polished to a shine. The paint achieves this effect due to the presence of special aluminum or brass microplates in it. It looks natural but sophisticated at the same time. Can be used for both interiors and exteriors. Unlike other textures, it requires special care – regular cleaning. But the beauty and durability of metallic coated items confirms that this is not a significant issue.

Features of applying textured paints

The application of textured paints differs from the smooth painting.
And here are some of the most important differences:

  • The layer of powder must be larger in order to clearly see the pattern.
  • Better to use tribostatic equipment. It will allow you to apply textured paint to all corners of the product.
  • If you need to paint the product to hide defects, you need to thoroughly clean all the irregularities.
  • It is important to strictly follow the guidelines for polymerizing textured paint. And in no case should you allow overbaking or underbaking – not only the color, but also the texture will deteriorate.

Pay attention to the polymerization time, it is different for different types of paints.
