Why and how to clean the air?
Compressed air is required for powder paint appling. It occurs spraying powder particles on the surface. And if the air is dirty, then the finished coatings will have low quality. Also dirt has a negative influence on pneumatic equipment: it can fail faster. Therefore, it is necessary to clean the air during powder painting.
The equipment required for powder painting will work successfully, if the dew point is less than + 3.3C, the oil in the air will be less than 0.1 million, and the dirt particles will be less than 0.3 microns in size.
To reduce the dew point, special air dryers are used.
But in order to remove dirt and oil, you need a filter and an oil-water separator. In this article we will discuss them more specifically.
Air purification equipment
After the air has been compressed by the compressor, it should be cleaned. This requires a filter and oil-water separator.
It is better to buy a coalescing filter. Thanks to it, both water and oil are removed from the air. If the production does not have an air dryer, then such filtration will dry the air additionally and protect the equipment from moisture. However, they have less moisture removal efficiency than dehumidifiers.
Some oil-water separators can regulate pressure and filter the air at the same time. It is very convenient to use. These oil-water separators clean much better than many line filters, even if their pressure control function is not used. They do not rust and they work longer than steel filters.
The oil-water separator is mounted in the air distribution system 7-8 m after the air intake for cooling the air before it goes inside.
They are installed at each point of air intake.
How air purification equipment works
The air quickly changes direction in dust filters and due to inertia heavier dust particles are thrown to the walls.Under the gravity they go down.
There is a device with a cyclonic effect. They work in the same way, but everything happens due to centrifugal force.
Industrial filtration of air from solid particles can be carried out by porous sintered bronze sheets, metal or plastic cylinders or with a textile that has a high absorption capacity.
Filters can trap even the smallest particles of dirt and keep the air completely clean. This means that the powder coating will be completely problem-free. But remember that filters need to be cleaned regularly and replaced occasionally.
