Air dryer for compressor

CERTIFICATES

Description

The block has two columns (adsorbers) filled with a sorbent (silica gel). Above and below the adsorbers have connections for loading and unloading the sorbent, the pipes are hermetically closed with lids.

Compressed air is fed through the inlet manifold from the bottom to the adsorbers. The dried air moves from the top through the outlet manifold.

There are two adsorbers taps installed at the bottom for supplying compressed air to the first, to the second, or to both at once. When air is supplied to one of the adsorbers, the second can be opened for unloading, regeneration and loading of the sorbent.

Check valves are installed at the top of the outlet from the adsorbers to cut off the idle adsorber.

A moisture separator is installed in front of the inlet header to remove droplet moisture from the compressed air proceeded for drying.

A filter is installed on the outlet manifold to trap mechanical impurities and sorbent particles formed during friction of the grains and a pressure regulator (reducer) with a manometer to adjust the outlet pressure.

To control the pressure in the adsorbers, manometers are installed on top of them.

The unit operation principle consists in the moisture absorption by the sorbent in the adsorbers while the proceeding air passes through it.

The sorbent stops absorbing moisture after a certain amount of it had been adsorbed. It is regenerated for restoring the absorbing capacity of the sorbent.

The sorbent – silica gel – is unloaded from the corresponding adsorber into a container and kept in an oven at a temperature of 110-150°C for 2-3 hours for regeneration

The regenerated cooled sorbent is loaded into the adsorber.

Operating procedure

Check the readiness of the unit for operation: the covers of the working adsorber in this cycle must be tightly tightened, the tap of the unused adsorber is closed. If both adsorbents are used at the same time, all caps must be tightly screwed on, both taps open.

Air supplied to the unit by opening the inlet tap or turning on the compressor.

Set the required outlet pressure with the pressure regulator (reducer).

After the end of the cycle, turn off the air supply to the unit or turn off the compressor.

Periodically, depending on the humidity and volume of the supplied air, it is necessary to regenerate the sorbent and remove the accumulated liquid from the moisture separator at the inlet. The sorbent should be regenerated at least once a week in moderate operating mode.

For sorbent regeneration it is necessary:

  1. Disconnect the unused adsorber by closing the valve at the inlet below.
  2. Place the container for the sorbent under the adsorber, unscrew the bottom cover, pour the sorbent into the container.
  3. Smooth the sorbent in the container with an even layer.
  4. Place the container with the sorbent in the oven with a temperature not exceeding 40°С  and heat to a temperature of 110 – 150 °C. Keep the sorbent in the oven for 2 – 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
  5. After the regeneration process is completed let the sorbent to cool down to a temperature of 30 – 35 °C.
  6. Pour the cooled sorbent into the adsorber.
  7. Screw the caps tightly. After that the adsorber is ready to be included in the operating mode.

To replace the sorbent, you must:

  1. Disconnect the adsorber (adsorbers) from the compressed air line, close the tap (taps) at the bottom of the inlet.
  2. Dump the waste sorbent from the adsorbers.
  3. Pour about 7 liters of sorbent into each of the adsorbers.
  4. Screw the caps tightly. The unit is ready for operation.
